The Christian Service Commission of St. Andrew Parish is privileged to sponsor outreach programs in a broad area of human needs. Our current volunteer/ministry services include:

Volunteer In Our Parish:

Bereavement Ministry

The Bereavement Ministry supports St. Andrew families who have lost a loved one. Volunteers in this ministry serve as companions to the bereaved. Their mission is to offer prayerful support and comfort to grieving families. Members remain in contact with families for one year following a funeral. During this time, they send the Stephen Ministry grief books as well cards and notes. Ministry volunteers serve as hosts for the Mass of Remembrance (Nov. 2). They may attend parish funerals and assist there as Mass Coordinators or Eucharistic Ministers.

New volunteers are always welcome to join.  Please contact Jackie McCarroll (248) 736-5020 or
David Seitz (248) 651-7486

Blood Drive (Red Cross)

Assist with our quarterly Blood Drives, or more often if scheduled.  Our volunteers work to register donors when they arrive and assist with hospitality at the canteen ensuring donors are rehydrated prior to leaving the facility. We typically need 2-3 volunteers for each of three shifts during the day of the blood drive.

To volunteer, contact David in the Parish Office (248) 651-7486 Davids@standrewchurch.org
or

Easter Basket Outreach

Volunteers come together in the Activities Building to assemble 200+ Easter Baskets, which are distributed to various local agencies supporting families in need.  We typically look for 30 volunteers aged 16 and up.  Additionally, volunteers are needed to deliver the baskets to the agencies.  This requires a Truck, Van or SUV.  Watch the bulletin and in-Church announcements during Lent for dates and details.

For further information contact David in the parish office (248) 651-7486 or email Davids@standrewchurch.org

Gospel of Life Committee

Parishioners meet to discuss the sacredness of life issues (womb to tomb) and share information with the parish through various methods including bulletin articles, letter writing campaigns, etc. Involvement includes Right to Life Christmas Card Sales, Walking with Moms in Need, Pro-Life Advocacy Issues. (youth & adult parishioners)

Homebound Eucharistic Ministers

Volunteers in this important ministry take the Eucharist to those members of our faith community that cannot attend Mass.  Some are permanently homebound; others are recovering from surgery or are in rehabilitation.  Our volunteers also minister to residents in local assisted living communities, ensuring that the faith is nourished and shared.  Some volunteers lead communion, rosary, and scripture services.  Those serving also provide companionship to those being visited, offering a continuing connection to the parish.  St. Andrew provides all the training and material needed to fulfill this spiritual work of mercy.

St. Vincent De Paul Conference Helpers

“The vocation of the Society’s members, who are called Vincentians, is to follow Christ through service to those in need and so bear witness to His compassionate and liberating love.  Members show their commitment through person-to-person contact.”  The Rule of SVdP Article 1.2

“No work of charity is foreign to the Society.  It includes any form of help that alleviates suffering or deprivation and promotes human dignity.” Rule 1.3

“The Society serves those in need regardless of creed, ethnic or social background, health, gender, or political opinions.” Rule 1.4

Those who join these works of mercy can participate as either full members or as associate members.  Associate members are not required to attend all of the meetings of the local conference and help out as their time and circumstance of life permit.

Jesus taught in Matthew 26:11 the “Poor will always be with you.”  The Society of St. Vincent de Paul works to alleviate poverty; however, the poor are all around us.  Vincentians strive to provide relief to those who suffer and struggle, knowing that sometimes, all we can do is be like Veronica and wipe the face of the suffering Jesus, providing some comfort and relief.

Do you feel called to be a Veronica who will wipe the face of the suffering Jesus in the guise of the poor and suffering?  If so, please contact David Seitz in the parish office  (248) 651-7486 or email  davids@standrewchurch.org
